In this multi-layered legal/psychological thriller, the discovery of the body of a fifteen-year-old girl in a compost pile in a posh coastal neighborhood spurs an investigation that challenges traditional notions of guilt and innocence. When a politically-motivated district attorney brings capital murder charges against a man-child, an aging uncle of the accused takes up his defense, recruiting a recovering alcoholic detective and another lawyer with his own demons to find out what really happened at the compost pile. They come to suspect a conspiracy among members of the small community, a conspiracy not to railroad the accused, but to substitute in his place a prominent local personality, one whose past makes him deserving of a finding of guilt. The Compost Pile is a tale of the blinding power of love, which motivates those in its grip to do whatever is necessary to make things right, even if justice be damned. The Compost Pile is the eighth legal thriller by attorney-author Stephen Woodfin. His book, Last One Chosen, was a finalist in the prestigious Best Indie Books of 2012 Awards, and his work The Warrior with Alzheimer's in 2013 received a coveted starred review on Kirkus Reviews. Woodfin is also a proprietor at Venture Galleries, a popular Internet site which connects readers, writers, and books. 1. Language: English. Narrator: Stephen Woodfin. Huw Richards is a man on a mission. He wants everyone to grow their own fruits and vegetables, and he wants to prove that you don't need much money (or even your own garden) to do so. Grow Food for Free shows you how to produce no-cost, low-maintenance fruits and vegetables. Learn about the space you need and how to prepare it, how to make your own compost, how to get your first set of seeds, and strategies to multiply the seeds you have. Can't afford a raised bed? Try repurposing an old wooden pallet. Don't have money to buy lots of different seeds? Look in your kitchen for food that you can plant. Don't have a garden? See whether anyone in your community will let you grow vegetables in their garden. Whatever you're worried about, there is a low-cost way to overcome it. Once you've found a good site, Huw recommends his favorite low-maintenance, high-yield crops, covering first annuals, then perennials (the holy grail of free food growing, since, if well maintained, perennial crops will provide new harvests year after year). Key plant maintenance instructions are provided throughout the book, as well as how to fend off common pests and diseases. Discover how you can barter, borrow, repurpose, and propagate your way to a bountiful harvest of fruit and vegetables, joining the food-growing revolution without burdening your bank balance!

Casing is an integrated part of mushroom compost ecosystem and it supposed to trigger fruit body formation conducted by the bacterial community residing in casing soil. During this process succession of bacterial community from 0 day stage to harvesting stage has been taken place. Mycelium- impregnated stage of both the casing layers (FYM+SC, FYM+VC) exhibited significant variation in nutritional status than other stages. Morphotypes recovered from mycelium-impregnated stage of FYM+SC and FYM+VC showed higher functional diversity than other stages. Acinetobacter sp. was highly prominent in casing layer compared Pseudomonas sp. identified by 16S rDNA partial gene sequencing. However, endotrophic population comprised largely of Bacillus sp. Maximum variation in functional diversity during substrate utilization was observed for FYM+SC (2:1), followed by FYM at 0 day stage, it was higher for FYM followed by FYM+SC (2:1) at harvesting stage. A significant variation was observed in nutritional status of casing combination for mycelium-impregnated stage.

High Rate Composting of Municipal Solid Waste

Due to high operating, transport costs and the poorly developed market for compost, the expected profits could not be realized as planned. Since 1990s, there is a trend towards smaller, manually operated composting plants at community level, initiated primarily by citizen initiatives or non-governmental organizations. Hence it recommended that instead of setting up single large compost plants, it would be beneficial and more effective to set up several small composting plants. Decentralized composting can be operated by an appropriate technology and implemented at reduced investment and operating costs. An efficient and promising technique in decentralized composting is the rotary drum composter. It is an excellent concept for smaller communities or in the case of projects that require a rapid and an enclosed pathogen killing process. This book, therefore, provides information on operational aspects and compost dynamics for the mixed municipal organic wastes in a rotary drum composter. The investigations should be useful for professionals in waste management fields, urban local bodies and institutional bodies.
